A NEW WORLD BURSTING INTO BLOOM
(second half of the story; continues from the first half)

Summary:

“Andromeda Black, I like you.” Ted grinned. “You want to go to Hogsmeade together next weekend?”

“What? No,” Andromeda said. “Wait, what are you asking me?”

Was he laughing at her? She was quite sure he was laughing at her. “I’m asking you if you want to go to Hogsmeade with me.”

“I – no. I’m sorry.” Andromeda winced as she said it, but she couldn’t think of a kinder way to reject him. She walked away wondering what in Merlin’s name made him think that was a reasonable thing to ask.

It was only much later, after the lights in the dormitory were out, that it occurred to Andromeda to wonder what made her think it wasn’t.

Characters: Andromeda, Ted, various Black family members

Rating: PG-13 for brief mentions of sex between consenting teenagers

Words: ~11,000

Notes: The idea for this story was initially inspired by MandyinKC, who has called Ted the "great unseen character" in my Andromeda stories – crucial to the story, yet always just offstage. I wanted to give Ted his chance to appear onstage, too!

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] stereolightning for beta-reading!

Oh, and I don't think I've ever thought to say this, but everything I post here can also be found at AO3 – under the same user name, starfishstar – if you prefer reading stories there. This story, for example, is here.

(This story formerly titled "A Series of Firsts.")

TEA, NO SYMPATHY

Summary:

Regulus keeps coming to tea at Narcissa’s home to rant and rave about how Sirius is a traitor to the family. But they’ve all known that for ages, haven't they?

(Part 2 of La Ronde Noire)

Characters: Narcissa, Regulus

Warnings: None

Words: ~1,100

Notes:

The idea for this story arose directly out of my writing of “The Landlord's Other Daughter,” which is itself a remix of "The Chimes at Midnight," stereolightning’s story about Andromeda and Narcissa, which in turn she says was influenced by my Andromeda-centric stories "Saying Yes" and "Two Sisters Take Tea."

Also, my ideas of Narcissa and Regulus’ interactions are unquestionably influenced by "I Know Where the Summer Goes" by such_heights.

…So there’s some additional reading for you, if you like!

Characters belong to JK Rowling.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] stereolightning for another extremely helpful beta-read!

Updated note:

This story is now part 2 of a series I'm calling "La Ronde Noire." (See part 1: "The Landlord's Other Daughter" for more explanation.)

THE LANDLORD'S OTHER DAUGHTER (remix of THE CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT by stereolightning)

Summary:
There were two kinds of goodbyes, Narcissa thought. This was not the one she had wanted to say tonight. (Part 1 of La Ronde Noire)

Characters: Narcissa, Andromeda

Warnings: None

Words: ~2,300

Notes: This is a remix of stereolightning's story "The Chimes at Midnight," so all credit to her! I'm just playing in a sandcastle someone else built in a sandbox someone else owns :-)

Also – thanks go to Alfred Noyes for "The Highwayman"!

Updated note: This began as a single story, but has since – thanks to an inspired suggestion from stereolightning – become part 1 of a small series of stories I'm calling "La Ronde Noire." A "la ronde" is a format in which each subsequent scene follows one character from the previous scene and introduces one new one, until it eventually circles around to the first pair of characters again. These stories follow characters and themes among the Black family siblings and cousins over the years.

TWO SISTERS TAKE TEA

Summary:
The letter lay on the mantelpiece for a week, then two, until Andromeda finally had to admit to herself that there were no two ways about it: She was being rude. She should have the decency at least to write and decline Narcissa's invitation. (This story is now also part 5 La Ronde Noire.)

Characters: Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy (and baby Teddy)

Warnings: None beyond what you already know from the books.

Words: 2,000
