Summary:

She made up secret personas each day to keep from going mad with boredom at her job. It amused her, and it didn’t matter since no one noticed anyway.

I suppose I should further note – though it’s not hugely relevant for this particular story – that as a whole I’m pretty much ignoring the existence of S4 . . . so I’m writing the characters as they were around S1/S2-era or so. :-)

BUDS AND BELLS AND STARS WITHOUT A NAME

Fandom: BBC Sherlock

Summary: Where Greg could have sworn an oak tree had stood a moment before, there was now instead a very posh man in a long, dark coat.

…In which Greg Lestrade has lunch in a city garden, and gets way more than he bargained for.

Characters: Greg Lestrade, Sherlock, cameos from Mycroft, Mrs Hudson, Donovan, Moriarty (sort of) and Redbeard (sort of); eventual Sherlock/Lestrade, but can also be read as mostly gen

Length: 5 short chapters (ca. 12,000 words total)

Notes: This was my Winter 2015 Holmestice gift for biswholocked, whose fun requests included: fantasy or magical realism or Sherlock as some kind of supernatural/fae/magical being, emotional exploration between characters, some danger, possibly casefic, and Sherlock/Lestrade…

I'm rather proud of this one, because I did many things that were new for me! In Sherlock fandom, so far I'd mostly only written serious, introspective one-shots about Mycroft and Sherlock (in fact, the final one of those is coming tomorrow!), but this one is longer, with more plot and action and even a bit of romance! Plus fantastical mythical beasts!

Thank you to the thesmallhobbit for such a fast, helpful beta, and to arianedevere for your amazing dialogue file. Phrases you recognise, dear reader, are either drawn from Arthur Conan Doyle himself (namely Holmes’ descriptions of Moriarty in “The Final Problem”) or BBC canon.

Story takes place pre-canon in a slightly alternate universe.
