Gonna do a quick little run of these so I'm finally caught up, despite having started the challenge a week late!

Day 11

"Talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing."

I've been wrestling with this one on and off for days, wondering how on Earth I could pick just ONE person to rave about, when there are so many I admire. So, so many fic writers have inspired and shaped and entertained me over the last few years – to single out one and not others would feel frankly weird. And then I realized...I've been completely focused on fic throughout the days of this challenge...but I don't have to be.

So I'd like to tell you that I adore redscharlach!

redscharlach describes herself on her tumblr as "an enthusiastic purveyor of various forms of internet whimsy." She's most renowned as the creator of the famous "Otters Who Look Like Benedict Cumberbatch" meme (and all related spinoffs/follow-up otters), but she also draws lots of whimsical, wonderful fanart for a variety of things, including Cabin Pressure and even John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme (I love the dedication of someone who draws fanart for a radio sketch show!) Not to mention...she's drawn miniature versions of every single Doctor Who companion. Respect.

Day 12

"Post a rec for fannish spaces and resources - comms, challenges, twitters, tumblrs, etc. Tell us about where you hang out."

For Harry Potter, a part of my heart will always belong to [livejournal.com profile] rt_morelove, because that's kind of my point of fannish origin, the first fest where I interacted with people instead of just shyly writing away in my own little corner! The [livejournal.com profile] rs_games are also a fandom gem. Though these next ones are longer active, I found much of my favorite genfic at old fests like [livejournal.com profile] hp_holidaygen and [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen. [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch is a great and still very active resource for all things HP fandom, including news of fests. And of course, [livejournal.com profile] crack_broom!

For Sherlock, [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc is excellent and always my go-to place. The post-episode discussions during this latest series have been great. And of course the [livejournal.com profile] threepatch podcast is a shining treasure. Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] holmestice is a great fest! I know I'm not telling any Sherlock fans anything they don't know with any of those. :-)

Torchwood isn't a very active fandom anymore, but I do check [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three pretty regularly, for occasional glimpses of news.

For Miss Fisher, I desperately wish there were a comm to hang out in and discuss the show! I haven't found anything, probably because everyone's on tumblr these days. That said, I'm so grateful to tumblr user jeneenp, who's written the most wonderfully in-depth reaction posts to most of the episodes. I haven't managed to even write and tell them how much I appreciate their reviews, because that's how much I fail at even trying to use tumblr. :-(

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hp_britglish is another fandom treasure, such a great community of Harry Potter fic writers helping each other out with the little questions of British language/culture/history that we non-British aren't always sure about. So incredibly helpful, every time I've written in with a question!

And I'm a fan of the [livejournal.com profile] online_bookclub – my participation has dropped off lately because I've had so much else going on (in December, I once again read the book...but finished it too late to participate in the discussion about it), but I still love the concept and plan to come back in the future!

...Wow, that got a lot longer than I expected when I first thought, well, what do I even have to list here, rt_morelove and maybe sherlockbbc? ...I think I am way more fannish than I tend to admit, or even notice. :-)

Day 13

"Write about a moment in fandom that meant a lot to you."

This isn't just one "moment," I suppose, but what this calls to mind for me is the period (this was about 3 years ago, I think?) when I first started meeting some other HP writers, Remus/Tonks writers – [livejournal.com profile] stereolightning, [livejournal.com profile] shimotsuki, [livejournal.com profile] gilpin25, [livejournal.com profile] huldrejenta... I honestly never expected to make friends in fandom. I wrote fic because I was interested in writing and enjoyed the fic I'd read and thought I'd try my hand at it too; I posted my fic because that's what one does with fic, but I never expected to actually talk to other people about it.

But then, people came along and talked to me. And the big old daunting world of FANDOM turns out not to be so daunting when you're just interacting as an individual with another individual, who happens to be nice and funny and kind and shares lots of your interests.

Day 14

"Go forth and commit an act of kindness."

Seems lame to count this as my "act of kindness" since of course I would have done it anyway (without prompting, I mean), but it's what comes to mind, so: I offered to beta read (though I don't think non-fandom people call it "beta reading"...) a script written by someone who worked for/with me on the theater production I just finished, and give her feedback on it. I can come at it from both a theater perspective (a bit) and a writer perspective (definitely) so she's very excited to have the feedback.
