Okay, I'm going to try to run through a few of these somewhat quickly, since I'm so far behind...

Day 2

"Share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul."

Like probably all bookish people, I can't possibly pick just one book (the whole point is that I love so many books!) so I'm going to try not to overthink this one, just say the first thing that comes to mind: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, because I read it when I was pretty young, and loved it so much, and my third grade teacher gave me a copy as a present that I still have to this day.

And come to think of it, Madeleine L'Engle may well be the first person I ever fangirled over... At some point when I was a kid, my mom went to a librarians' conference (I'm sure it will come as a surprise to none of you to learn that my mom is a librarian) and Madeleine L'Engle was the keynote speaker, and I remember just thinking that was the coolest thing, that my mom was going to meet Madeleine L'Engle. In person.

(Edited to add: I feel exactly the same way about songs. I could not possibly ever pick just one song!)

Day 3

"Set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private."

Real life, non-fannish goal is pretty clear: Get some clarity about what I want to do in life for the medium term/next few years. The last three-ish years have been a period of enormous transition, as I changed between careers, between countries, and did some hard and definitely not yet complete work on some big issues of life and mental wellbeing. It was definitely, definitely not wasted time, but I am also getting somewhat weary of being still in transition, perpetually trying to make a life amid temporary circumstances. I think I'm feeling almost ready to make some decisions about what comes next.

Writing/fandom goals: I've fallen rather alarmingly out of the habit of writing regularly, in part because I chose to focus for a while on other things (music, then theater), and maybe in part because my life has been so topsy turvy and not lent itself to time or calm or writing. This year's goal, I think, is an and/or: I'd like to use my interest in fandom/fanfic as a place to keep pushing myself to write more different things, definitely longer fics with more plot and structure (not just character-study/missing-moment one-shots), and/or maybe it's time to embark on a big original fic project again!

Day 4

"Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them."

Earlier today I left a comment in response to a comment by somebody I admire in a big group discussion, so for now I'm going to count that... Doesn't sound like much, but between my tendency to shyness when I don't yet know people, my tendency to overthinking things always, and how I'm always tired/exhausted/overworked and running out of time, and then the overthinking takes up so much of what little time I have that by the time I've deliberated to the point of being able to join in on something I've already run out of free time again and I end up giving up on trying to participate at all... Anyway, yeah, even daring to comment on a discussion with people I don't yet know is pretty good. :-)

Madeleine L'Engle is definitely a gift. I love that you fangirled her.

Good luck with your goals!

Hey, a comment is all that is required, so go you for completing Day 4 as well. It is super hard, but worth it when it pans out. :-)
