RS Games!

rs_games reveals are up! Or at least, the reveal of the winning team is up (the "winning" aspect always feels incidental, though, given how much work both sides put in, and how much fun everybody has with it!) and I imagine the final de-anonymized master list will be up soon.

I was still hoping to leave a few more comments at the fest and maybe even make a recs post, but I just don't know if I'll manage it – I'm starting to pretty seriously panic about getting my Holmestice fic done in time for the DEADLINE THAT IS ONLY A WEEK AWAY ACK. Should not have challenged myself to write a multi-chapter, plotty, different-genre-than-I-usually-do fic in a fandom where I've only ever written short, canon-compliant, character-study one-shots before. ACK ACK.

Well, I don't think I've ever missed a deadline in my life, so I'm sure I'll pull it off somehow.

Anyway, I'll post my RS Games fic at AO3 and here, sometime soon, but it may end up not happening until AFTER I SUBMIT TO HOLMESTICE ACK.

Huh, for a post about the RS Games, that ended up with a lot of Holmestice in it. :-P Apparently I'm a person who should not attempt to sign up for more than one fest per several-months-or-half-a-year? At least if I'm writing multi-chapter fics for both.

The non-anon masterlist has been up on tumblr for days...dunno why they're waiting so long to post it to lj.

Yeah, I saw that the master list was on tumblr but not LJ, dunno why.

And I was going to go back and comment again on your fic in the games, but I'll just say it here instead – oh, I didn't realize that was you!! I thought maybe I would recognize your story, since your style and voice felt so distinctive in your RS Games fic last year, but nope, I didn't guess at all. So kudos for confounding my expectations *and* writing a fic I really enjoyed. (Yours is on the short list of fics I would rec if I could just find the time to do it... Darn it, now that I've said that, I should probably do it!)

Cool :D I admit I haven't read a single fic of this year's games. I have had zero time or energy to read anything for months v.v I'll get around to it eventually. Hopefully. :/

Haha, yeah, that was me :) my style tends to vary a lot between my shorter fics and my longer ones! So don't feel bad, if last year's fic was all you had to go on, you would never have been able to pick another fic of mine out of a line up :)

Yeah, I definitely didn't manage to read all of them – last year I read ALL THE ENTRIES in the Games, all the way through, no matter what, and in retrospect, it's way more than I should have tried to take on! This year I cut myself a little slack, told myself it was okay not to be so intense about it... I did manage to read many more than I'd thought I would have time or ability for, actually, but nowhere near all! Reading all the RS Games activities in the space of a month, that's something of a superhuman feat...

I also wrote a very different fic from my fic(s) last year, and I was pleased with myself for that. :-)

Ha, good luck with Holmestice! It sounds like a fun excuse to stretch yourself and try something new -- though I totally get the feeling of panic when one is in the middle. ;)

My November writing plans have not been going well, partly because there's an avalanche of work that I'm having enough trouble trying to get through as it is. :( Giving a guest class and a lecture at another university on Friday -- looking forward to the trip and the chance to confer with other folks on my main current work project, but ugh, busy!

Thank you! Yes, I'm glad I challenged myself to stretch and try something new, but with this particular thing, I did bite off a little more than I could comfortably chew... Less familiar fandom, character I hadn't written before, different genre, plot-centric, long...I should have known better than to try all of that at once, my first time in a new fest. BUT I'm almost done with the first draft, and I found a beta (amazing!!) and I think I'm actually going to pull it off in time for the deadline, though not quite as well or polished as I'd like. Phew!

Glad that the stuff that's keeping you busy sounds fun, but I'm sorry you haven't had the writing time you wanted! Good thing November's not the only month to write in. :-)
