My incredibly intense summer job has ended; I now have two weeks of mostly-vacation, staying in a lovely house in the country and looking after three sweet cats while their person is away. Priorities: reading a lot, writing a lot, sleeping a lot, getting outdoors, cooking real food, lazing about with cats. Ahhh. Did I mention reading a lot? And that there's a hammock?

In addition to reading a lot, I thought I'd also watch a few of the movies on my "maybe watch someday" list, and catch up on the-TV-show-I'm-currently-watching, which in this case is Doctor Who. Here are thoughts about stuff:

Doctor Who: I've almost reached the end of Series 4, which for me is basically synonymous with "I've almost reached the end," because I don't plan to keep watching into the Steven Moffat era. I can't stand that much Moffat-creeping-misogyny or that much Moffat-look-at-me-I'm-so-clever-and-now-my-plotlines-are-so-convoluted-they-don't-even-make-sense-anymore. I may cherry-pick specific episodes to watch (like anything written by Neil Gaiman? and the 50th anniversary special sounds good) but I think regular watching ends for me with the conclusion of Russell T. Davies' showrunning and David Tennant's Doctor-being.

Anyway, I just watched "The Stolen Earth" (next-to-last episode of Series 4) and whooooa so much fun. If that episode was designed to make your average New Who fan melt with squee, well, it worked! The Doctor + all companions past and present + the Torchwood crew + Sarah Jane Smith? Everyone together. Oh, win, win, win. I think Sarah Jane might be my new favorite. Darn it, I'm going to end up having to watch her spin-off show now too, aren't I? And Harriet Jones. Oh, Harriet Jones. I knew you were that awesome! (Also, that episode looked like a lot of fun to film, with a lot of running around and dramatic sparks flying. It occurs to me you have to be quite physically fit to play the Doctor, because he runs, all the time.)

I might wait a bit, though, before watching "Journey's End" (the final episode of this series proper, before the series of specials). One thing about watching a show years after it first aired is that you don't exactly stay spoiler-free, and "Journey's End" sounds devastating.

Torchwood: The first episode of the new audio series is out today! I don't know whether to be thrilled or terrified. Will they manage to recover from the debacle that was Miracle Day? Also, will John Barrowman pull it off? I adore him as Captain Jack, but he is not always very strong as a voice actor.

Cabin Pressure: I came across someone who'd done a Cabin Pressure meme recently, and it made me so happy. I'm so glad people are still talking/thinking/breathing Cabin Pressure, almost a year after the final episode aired. Cabin Pressure is one of my favorite things ever. John Finnemore is one of my favorite things writers ever.

BBC Sherlock: The Three Patch Podcast ([livejournal.com profile] threepatch) continues to delight and amuse every month. I always get a kick out of listening to the Three Patch crew eruditely squee over all things Sherlock. They inspire fic, too – half the Sherlock fics I've written were inspired by something discussed on the podcast.

Harry Potter: As always, my involvement in fandom lies mostly in fic-writing. I'm now in the final editing stage(!!) of Part 2 of my big Remus/Tonks epic, ready to start posting very soon, and meanwhile also trying to work on two Remus/Sirius fics at the same time. How does this happen??

Seriously, again, why are all my fandoms British? What is in the water (or air? or soil?) over there that makes y'all so strange and smart and off-beat-ly talented?

Ah, that sounds like a lovely way to spend two weeks! I'm with those people, I still love Cabin pressure to bits and am writing not one but two fics in the fandom right now! :)

*laughs* Oh, right, I remember that I meant to say something but then I didn't, um, so yes: nice to meet you! ;) Sherlock and Cabin Pressure are my main fandoms, but I'm with you in Doctor Who, Torchwood and Harry Potter as well!

And I know, I saw John Finnemore last year twice for his Souvenir programme recordings, but this year the dates just didn't work out... I would have LOVED to have been there. Aw. He's so nice, too!
