First time reading this chapter! I guess what happened was, I got snowed under at holiday (and rt_morelove!) time last year, and lost the thread...
I continue to be impressed by the way you work in all the canon details about the war; in this chapter, the Occlumency fiasco and Dumbledore leaving Hogwarts. I like the added details as well, like Kingsley's personal approach to security, or Dumbledore explicitly deputizing Order responsibilities to Remus and Mad-Eye.
It's heartbreaking to see Tonks so carefully keeping her distance from Remus (and Remus, of course, following her lead), but it makes a lot of sense that she wants them to build a clearer relationship of trust before they start moving fast again. Still, the birthday kiss was sweet, if poignant.
