Ahoy, Finnemore fans! (Finnemorians? Finnemites?)

John Finnemore's new radio series, "John Finnemore's Double Acts" is currently airing on BBC Radio 4, and it's eminently worth checking out if you're even the least bit a fan of this brilliant writer.

It's a series of (unconnected) two-person radio plays, which makes it pretty different in format from either Cabin Pressure (episodic comedy following the same characters) or John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme (sketch comedy). In a way, these plays are like a JFSP sketch, but with each one getting a whole half hour to explore its concept.

I thought the first play ("A Flock of Tigers") was interesting but unremarkable (though I will definitely listen at least once more before passing judgment!), but then today I listened to the second one ("Wysinnwyg") and it had me laughing out loud – it's Finnemore all over, from the sharp observation of exasperating people in mundane yet somehow bizarre situations to the sly, clever humor creeping up underneath.

The main page for the program(me) is here: "John Finnemore's Double Acts". As of this writing, episodes one and two can be heard ("A Flock of Tigers" is available for 22 more days, "Wysinnwyg" is available for 29 more days) and the next one, "Red-Handed", will air for the first time next Friday.

Also, kudos to John Finnemore for continuing to write awesome parts for middle-aged women. Long may the BBC keep giving you rein to write, John! There will always be an audience for your brilliant brain.
