Still a Harry Potter fan, I swear
May. 6th, 2015 11:53 pmAh, man, I feel like I need to apologize for all this recent Torchwood-ness to my f-list friends who aren't Torchwood fans, which as far as I know is...all of you! It's a phase, not a permanent shift, I swear.
(HP projects still in progress: massive R/T story, final Dumbledore/Grindelwald story, maybe one or two other genfic ideas I've got knocking around, plus maybe a fun Remus/Sirius AU I'm not going to tell you anything about just yet. ;-)
Also more Sherlock, probably, who knows.
...Seriously, though, is there anyone out there who will squee with me even a little bit over yesterday's announcement that it's official, Torchwood is coming back as a series of 6 audio plays, and they're being produced by Big Finish (the folks who do the much-acclaimed Doctor Who audio plays), which means they'll almost definitely actually be good, and everyone can carry on pretending Miracle Day never happened and Torchwood can go back to being very strange but wonderful?? Anybody?
I was just updating my LJ profile to reflect the expanding nature of the fic I write, and I realized...all my fandoms are British. I mean, I knew most of them were, but now it's all. I can't decide if this means that the US needs to step up, or if it's just that I personally am unduly diverted by shininess from over the sea. Or maybe Monty Python and Douglas Adams just hardwired my brain at an impressionable age, and I imprinted like a duckling on that particular brand of cleverness and humo/ur. But, seriously, any country that produces both J. K. Rowling and John Finnemore...that's a place I want to be.

Date: 2015-05-13 03:39 am (UTC)I'm behind on LJ again, but I saw some of your other recent posts go by, and I will just point out: if Shards of Honor works for you, you just might gain an American fandom. ;) Seriously, my experience has been that fic in all three of the Bujold fandoms has been astonishingly high-quality.
(I hope you like Cordelia and everyone, though of course taste is a funny thing and hard to predict. I did want to say that Shards is one of Bujold's first books, and while I love it for the way it sets up the universe and the family, and I adore getting to see so much of the inside of Cordelia's head, Bujold's writing does get better in later books. If Shards is too space-battle-y for you, you might want to try Barrayar before you give up entirely, because it's got a lot more of the planetside politics, which is IMO the best part of the Vorkosigan series. And Cordelia still kicks tail.)

Date: 2015-05-13 01:35 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm looking forward to finally, finally, finally reading some Lois McMaster Bujold, who's so highly recommended by...everyone, basically. May still be a while, though, because that's only one of literally 40 or so to-be-read books now stacked on my shelf, after I made two library book sale runs! And I'll bear your caveats about the early books in the series in mind. How curious and cool that the fic in that fandom is particularly good. I would think that must be a reflection of the quality of the series itself in some way, perhaps?
