Join me at Purimgifts??

Guys guys guys guys!! This is coming:

(Sign-ups 2–9 January!)

[community profile] purimgifts is a delightful pan-fandom exchange I joined for the first time last year; I love that it's tied to a Jewish holiday (and a very joyful Jewish holiday at that), after I'd spent so long in fandom experiencing mostly Christmas-adjacent fests, but you very very definitely don't have to be Jewish to participate! You just have to want to create fics (or podfics) about characters who are at least one of: women, Jewish...or persecuted by evil viziers. ;-)

It's quite low-key: You make three small gifts (ficlets or ficlet-sized podfics) and a very small art/icon component as well. (The "art" aspect can sound daunting, but in my experience – just as promised – it was easy to do!) This is a really joyful fest with nice people and lots of good will, and I recommend it. There's still time to nominate fandoms or sign up or just find out more here.

Join me?

<3

Separately but relatedly, I'm wondering if I should sign up for [community profile] chocolateboxcomm – I've seen it around for a number of years but don't really know anything about it. Anyone want to tell me why it's great and I should join??

Purim gifts has always looked like a lot of fun!

Chocolate Box is a low-minimum (300 words of fic, or a sketch for art) relationship-based exchange, which means that instead of requesting and offering characters, you request and offer relationships, slash or ampersand. This year's tagset has already been nominated, so you have to request/offer off of that list of fandoms and relationships. The collection goes live on Valentine's Day, but it's gen-friendly -- you can nominate, request, and offer nothing but '&' relationships, if you feel like it.

Yup, there's a lot of potential to be gotten from "I want to see these two people interacting", which is basically what the exchange is. And it's a chance to request fairly rare combinations of characters, which might be hard to get otherwise. (As with most exchanges, you're not super likely to get one of those rare combinations? But you can always put it out there to the universe.)

Sadly, sign-ups closed last night! But you can always treat for this year, or follow the comm for next year.

Hahahaha, my calendar-inept brain strikes again! You're right, they're open through tonight. And to think I all but broke myself trying to get sign-ups in the other night so I wouldn't get caught by closing!

Go sign-up! It'll be fun!
