High time to corral the "Be the Light in My Lantern" series into one master post...

The BE THE LIGHT IN MY LANTERN series will eventually include:

• "What I Have Taken Long Before" – a short prequel that brings both Remus and Sirius up to the point where we find them at the beginning of OotP.

• "Be the Light in My Lantern" – the first half of my Remus/Tonks story, during OotP.

"Raise Your Lantern High" – the second half of my Remus/Tonks story, during HBP.

• And a short coda story, still to be written, set some years later.

• Plus, the playlists to both "Be the Light in My Lantern" and "Raise Your Lantern High," with songs that reflect each chapter. (And yes, I listened to these mixes a lot while writing these stories...)

Or FIND THE WHOLE SERIES ON AO3.

GOLDEN, RIPE AND ROTTEN
A short series chronicling the rise, height and fall of the summer young Dumbledore and Grindelwald met in Godric's Hollow.

Sharp and Bright against a Golden Sky
Gellert was gilded, aureate, bedazzling, resplendent; he was aureolin pigment on a blinding canvas, rays of light through beads of amber, stalks of goldenrod against a sunlit sky. And Albus Dumbledore had never before thought he needed a thesaurus just to talk about the evidence of his own eyes.
Characters: Albus, Gellert
Words: ~750

Ripe as Summer Quinces
“Albus, my white knight,” Gellert said, and something in Albus’ chest loosened and blossomed, as it always did when Gellert spoke those words. “What shall we do today, with all the world at our feet?”
Characters: Albus, Gellert, Aberforth, Ariana
Words: ~2,700

The Rotten Core
And still, for one endless second, Albus thinks Gellert might say, I’ll stay.
Characters: Albus, Gellert, Aberforth, Ariana
Words: ~1,000

Also, not exactly part of the series, but closely related:

Sharp Lightning against a Dangerous Sky
They meet again on a wide, muddy plain in Belgium where millennia of battles have been fought.
(Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, and the duel.)

Characters: Albus, Gellert
Words: ~3,800

IN THE WRONG HOUSE

Summary:

Sirius Black, Remus thought, was just as arrogant and annoying as James Potter, and he wished the two of them would stop getting into fights. Because Remus kept finding himself stepping in to stop them, and calling that kind of attention to himself was really the last thing he needed during his first year at Hogwarts.

It didn't matter if they were unpredictable Blacks or show-off Potters, or even someone harmless like Peter Pettigrew. None of these boys could be his friends, and it was time Remus started remembering it.

He didn't mind, Remus told himself. He didn't need friends.

SHELTER AT YOUR DOOR

Summary: Over the years, one young man keeps turning up at Andromeda's door.

Pairing: Andromeda/Remus (I know I know I know how weird that sounds, but bear with me… It's very much an AU, and I promise that makes it all right! There's no infidelity or anything – it's an entirely alternate scenario.)

Characters: Andromeda, Remus, Sirius, other characters

Words: ~12,700 (in 9 short chapters)

The sections are each so short I hardly know if I should really consider them "chapters," but the story as a whole is also too long to fit in a single post, so. Here's the whole thing:

I. Dogs on the Doorstep (1975)
II. An Owl at the Window (1979)
III. A Wayfaring Stranger (1981) (I–III are posted here.)
IV. A Wolf at the Door (1984)
V. A Spark (1986)
VI. A Flame (1986/1987)  (IV–VI are posted here.)
VII. A Steady Fire (1991)
VIII. An Unexpected Offer (1993)
IX. Lie Low at the Lupins’ (1995)  (VII–IX are posted here.)

From Rock to Sea to Solid Ground
three stories of Remus and Sirius in the in-between years:

Skellig, Azkaban, Albion, Éire
(Sirius sometimes thought the ceaseless crash of the waves was the only thing that kept him sane. / Remus found himself drawn to the far-flung edges, the places where the world seemed to drop into the sea.)

Cast Your Soul to the Sea
(On a boat leaving England, Remus is not as alone as he thinks.)

What I Have Taken Long Before
(Twelve years is a great deal left unsaid. "Lie low at Lupin's" is only the very beginning.)

La Ronde Noire:

What began as simply a remix of stereolightning's Andromeda-and-Narcissa story "The Chimes at Midnight" showing the other perspective from the same scene (Narcissa-and-Andromeda in "The Landlord's Other Daughter") quickly spilled over into some related thoughts about Narcissa-and-Regulus ("Tea, No Sympathy").

Another inspired suggestion from stereolightning got me wondering whether it would be possible to write a La Ronde (a format in which each subsequent story follows one character from the previous scene into a new scene with another character, until it eventually circles around to the first pair of characters again). By then I was already thinking that an Andromeda-and-Narcissa story I'd already written ("Two Sisters Take Tea," formerly titled "A Visit") could actually bookend such a set of stories quite well. The rest – Regulus-and-Sirius ("Two Brothers Down a Dark Alley Sometime in 1979"), then Sirius-and-Andromeda ("Forget this Tapestry") – fell into place from there!

Here's the whole set:

1. The Landlord's Other Daughter (remix of The Chimes at Midnight by stereolightning) – Narcissa and Andromeda, circa 1971

2. Tea, No Sympathy – Narcissa and Regulus, circa 1976

3. Two Brothers Down a Dark Alley Sometime in 1979 – Regulus and Sirius, 1979

4. Forget this Tapestry – Sirius and Andromeda, 1995

5. Two Sisters Take Tea – Andromeda and Narcissa, 1998
